Safest route is to take it apart and clean up the insides, working
carefully with brushes, swabs, and clean cloths using a freon-based
contact cleaner, mild screen cleaner or just small amounts of water.
Alcohol used to be the go-to cleaner but some modern materials are
affected by it.
Take apart tools and kits are easily available on-line from the likes
of dealextreme, ebay, monoprice.
If you're willing to risk the device, you can spray contact cleaner
from the outside, work the cont6rols, and swab it all away as it runs
out. I am pretty sure that will not damage anything.
