The memo files are in your iPhone. When you check "include voice memos" they are transferred to your "songs" under their respective names. It's quit simple. They also remain on both devices until deleted.

All that is reqd is to check the "include voice memos" box whilst syncing. Look for this option.. You will then find all voice memos under the name you have given them in your "songs" on the Mac.
