Thanks to Otto and Brent for responses
The 6 plus has been wiped completely and kept for spare if the 8 plus fails me. Th iphone 6 plus backup is in itunes (the 8 plus backup is separate and new). The sound files in question also exist on the PC as separate *.m4a files. (As I was setting up the new phone from scratch and not restoring the old backup, I was careful to keep quite a lot of individual files from apps etc and the Voice Memos are among them)

So where are they? Just on the 6+, in iTunes, or some other files on your computer?

After two or three months, I have still not discovered how to transfer Voice Memos from my old iphone 6 plus onto my new iphone 8 plus. I have a couple I want to keep. The new device was set up new, not Restoring via itunes, but I have the Voice Memo files I want. I have tried several methods to insert them, but they do not appear.
