Re: [apple-iphone] Automatic uninstallation of apps

You have the off load feature enabled. go to Settings> General> iPhone Storage and turn it off.

Major frustration on a number of fronts. When free space gets low--somewhere around 6 GB or more on my 64 GB iPhone 6--iOS starts taking apps off the phone. This is not okay on a number of fronts.

I can speculate why Apple may think they know better than I how to manage the space on my device but "why" is not the point.

In order to use an app that iOS takes off the phone (which retains the icon but adds a little cloud in the corner) requires downloading the app again. That uses data, data that often comes from caps or in some instances is paid by the bit.Apple is making choices that should be made by the user that costs the user money.

Further, sometimes the app is one that is used offline and potentially mission critical. Get on an airplane and find TV or Kindle is just gone and I'm frustrated and disappointed.

I spend a lot of time offshore delivering boats. If something is gone it will be days if not weeks before I get Internet access again. I have backup navigation apps on my phone that work offline and are key to safety at sea. iOS keeps taking them off my phone between trips.

Apple engineers seem to assume that everyone has broadband and employer-paid unlimited data in places with good cell coverage and high-speed data. They need to get out of the office and out of Silicon Valley to the real world with flaky coverage and pre-paid plans. In the US I have AT&T unlimited so I just have the frustration of waiting--sometimes fifteen or twenty minutes--to get an app back. In the Caribbean it comes out of the pre-paid data limit on my local SIMs.

Does anyone know a way to stop iOS from taking apps off my phone?
