Carol,
I had this same exact problem, and spent the longest time on the phone with Apple about it. What finally worked for me was deleting the song in iTunes, on my iPhone, and on my iPad. Then close all the apps and the iTunes program. Open up iTunes again and re-download the song. Once downloaded, it should show up on your phone and/or iPad. It worked for me, hopefully it will for you. If it doesn't call Apple and ask what else can be tried.

I bought a song on my iPad 5 through iTunes. It shows up in my list of
songs, but I can't play it, it just jumps immediately to another tune. Also, I can't delete it and re-download. It plays on my iPad 3, and it plays fine through iTunes in my computer. I have been having problems with songs since I got the 5, but I have always been able to delete and re-download. Not this time. Also, to try and fix the problem, Apple has 2x taken my phone back to factory settings. Has anyone else ever had that issue? If so, how did you handle it?
Thanks.
Carol
