RE: [apple-iphone] Iphone 4s

mike, these are the steps i take to make aand transfer a custom ringtone for my verizon iPhone 4 and 4S using a WinXP Pro SP3 PC. i assume the same steps would work for other Windows machines but if you have a MAC then someone else will need to, 'chime' in.

- since you already have the the MP3 file be sure you know where it is on
your hard drive

- navigate to this website: http://audiko.net/ this website (free) will
convert your MP3 (or WAV files) to the proper ringtone format. the maximum
length of a rington is 30-seconds. using the tool in the http://audiko.net
website you'll be able to edit your original file to whatever length you
like as long as the final length is 30-seconds or less. (NOTE: the website
also has a library of free ringtones (scroll towards the bottom of the
screen). but if you choose to SEND RINGTONES TO YOUR CELL there will likely
be a charge. these instructions will allow you to make the rington and
transfer the tone for free.)

- click UPLOAD and navigate to wherever you've stored your MP3 file. your
MP3 file will be uploaded to the website tool.

- click CREATE RINGTONE. this is the first step in converting your MP3 file
to the M4R file your phone wants

- when prompted enter the ARTIST name and TITLE of the ringtone. i've found
that i need to enter something into each box in order for the conversion
process to start. i use UNKNOWN in the ARTIST box for most of my ringtones.
the TITLE is simply a description of the ringtone that will appear as the
ringtone name in your phone. click SAVE & CONTINUE. the M4R file has now
been created.

- on the next screen click DOWNLOAD and then SAVE. a dialogue box will open
asking where you want to save the file. i put my M4R files in the same
folder with the original MP3's but you can put them anywhere you like.
you'll see that the name of the file will be a combination of the ARTIST and
TITLE that you previously entered. i edit the file name to remove the
ARTIST's name before saving it but that's just my personal preference.

once the file has been saved open iTunes. i'm using version 10.6.3.25.
also open Windows Explorer on your PC. if you don't know how to do that the
easiest way is to RIGHT click the START button and then choose EXPLORE.

- connect your iPhone to your PC

- once your phone has been recognized RIGHT click on your phone's name and
perform a BACKUP. i do this before making *any* changes to my phone.

- when the backup is done click on TONES in the library section in the left
column of iTunes

- then, to make the next step easier, i shrink the iTunes and Windows
Explorer windows so that each is occupies roughly half the screen

- drag the M4R file you created from whatever folder it is in across to
iTunes and drop it in the TONES portion of the library.

now all you have to do is SYNC your phone with iTunes

- start iTunes and connect your phone to your PC

- left click on your phone's name and do a BACKUP. i do this each and every
time prior to syncing or making any changes to my phone

- when the backup is complete click on TONES in the window pane on the right
side of the screen

- click on ALL TONES (or select individual tones by clicking on Selected
Tones) and the click on SYNC TONES

- if this is your first tone sync you will probably have to click on APPLY
in the lower right hand corner

the tone(s) you created will be synced to your phone.

please note that

good luck

I have switched from a Blackberry to an AT&T Iphone 4s. I would like to have
a Morse Code ringtone as the phone ringtone. I had one on my Blackberry that
I created in a MP3 file and it was simple to download and work great for me.
I still have the Mp3 file, how can I move this file into my Iphone ringtone
list?
I have Itunes and have syn the phone to my computer. In the Tunes I don't
see the ring list so I am lost as to how to move a ring to into the phone.
Thanks for your help in advance
Mike
