Wanting to retrieve an old piece of data, I have reconfigured my old iphone 6 (which has been in a drawer for a year), and located a two year old backup for that device, created on this PC. However, on plugging in, itunes denies that the iphone has ever been backed up to this computer. I have the backup I need. Why can I not just use it? It strikes me as a very straightforward situation which itunes is making a problem.

I often receive that message for my iPhone 6+ and my iPad Pro. Both are backed up to iCloud and to my iMac. However, The message usually says never backed up to iCloud. Frustrating.
