Nick, your phone being a 6 plus rules out the "empty folder" issue being isolated to a certain model, since I see the same thing with my 8. Personally, I seldom did any file manipulating when connected to my PC, but it is nice to have the capability. I wonder if this issue happens when connecting the phone to a Mac?

Mine is a 6Plus Ken but I see from messages that some 6 users have not had problems. In terms of finance (always an issue), an upgrade is about due anyway. Does anyone know if an 8 would solve any of the issues? Or might I even find I can't transfer some stuff across. Nothing surprises me these days - hardware and software suppliers seem to regard leaving us all in the lurch as a fact of life these days

I rarely use the windows drive access to photos I use photosync to wirelessly transfer.
However I did check my phone. I have a 6s plus and a Windows 10 machine. I DO get the folders with pictures to show the pictures just like before. Could it be a bug in your installation? And I can manipulate the photos just as in Drive mode past.

Forgetting the number of apps I have lost while waiting for their compilers to produce new versions, iOS 11 seems to have created other problems.
Recent itunes changes are being commented on in this group - I agree it is a backward step nothing much was wrong with iTunes at all, so if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Since iOS 11, iTunes is often not triggered when I connect my iphone. I have to disconnect and reconnect two or three times before it opens iTunes (Windows 10 64 bit).
Also, I cannot access the iPhone's memory when connected - the iPhone shows in "This PC" of Windows, but there is no content. The "Properties" of "This PC" show the phone's memory etc absolutely correctly, but a double-click to open the iphone shows "Internal memory" but a double-click on that gives "This folder is empty" - i.e. the Windows PC connects to the phone but cannot explore it. This was my quick way to access the iPhone's Camera Roll and Apple get no points from me for straight and simple messing me around. I now have to go through other less easy routes to transfer photos.
