I am so sorry to hear of your awful experience! Can you possibly get in line on Nov 3rd and physically buy one direct from Apple??? I know that is what I would do if that happened to me.

I may try going to my local Apple Store on November 3rd, but I have not great hopes for that.
I expect there to be a long line waiting when the doors open in the morning, and probably all of them will be either years or decades younger than my 72 years. I'm not much of a queue-er anymore.
It seems that even trying to PRE-order an iPhone X right now is impossible for me, because they refuse to ship to my AT&T billing address, they refuse to ship to any other address, and they are "unavailable for pickup at your Apple Store"…
