In my case the carrier update appeared to be pushed to me by Verizon. I did not authorize it although I recall receiving notifications in the past that updates were available. Not this time. It looked normal.
It got strange right after that which is the part that the Verizon people don't seem to understand. the pop up message wanted me to choose WorldWide_WiFi as my cell service carrier. But because "WiFi" is in the name they insist I was connected to a WiFi network.
My phone is set to ask me if I want to join a network. It didn"t. Now I am wondering if someone in the parking lot had the technology to gain access to my iPhone. My wife was sitting next to me but had no issue. I don"t believe that she was using her phone at that moment.
