Replying to my own post - I have reset the original profile which has restored much of the functionality of the sync procedures, but still leaves me with an email system which cannot access my Contacts directly.
It is clear some Calendar entries have been lost completely. Less than I first thought as one cause was that the Default Calendar had changed (apparently spontaneously) in the iphone. However, new entries in the iphone do not seem to be appearing in icloud (and therefore Outlook). They do go the other way!! (I noticed last night after my first post that my Notes were syncing properly with icloud, even though nothing else was).
I am minded to uninstall icloud and start again. Has anyone advice about clearing all icloud stuff out of the PC after uninstall please?
