Are you both signed into the same iCloud account? That is what allows the photo's to be shared automatically. If you signed into your new 6s+ with a different iCloud account then it won't automatically sync.
However, you can manually sync by setting up a Family account and putting all the pictures in the Family shared account on iCloud photo sharing.

Thru many iPhones and versions of iOS, my wife and I could share anything on our "Photo Stream". If either took a picture, when next we were on WiFi, the photo taken was uploaded to the Cloud and then downloaded to the other's phone. I recent upgraded to a 6s+ and we both are now using iOS 9. What used to work doesn't seem to work anymore. In Settings > Photos & Camera, we both have My Photo Stream & iCloud Photo Sharing turned on. We are both doing HomeSharing. (When one of us downloads a new app, it appears on the others phone shortly thereafter). Any suggestions, gang? This is always a great place to get ideas…thanks!
Happy Holidays!
