I've never tried downloading an audiobook using iTunes so I can't speak to that. Listening to one that I've downloaded using Audiobook Builder is no different when compared to a purchased book. Perhaps that's also the case using the iTunes method; I just discovered the inexpensive app years ago and have been pleased with it since.
