I normally use the web interface for gmail on my pc when doing this. It is much easier than using the iPhone or iPad.

Good to know, as I have a backup GMail account as well. Did you send those 100-mail batches from the GMail website or via a mail client like Apple Mail or iOS Mail? In point of fact, my problem was a bit odd, as follows.
This was from Apple iOS Mail on my iPad 4. I originally sent all the contacts in my Friends Family Group, about 60, but it produced an error box stating that one of the addresses was "_-" and not valid, so rejected the whole group. I couldn't locate where it had found the "_-" entry, as every address looked valid and that combination of characters was not evident. I gradually cut out various numbers of addresses but received the same error message until I had reduced the mail to about 6-7 recipients, and it Sent without the error message. I sent the rest in batches of about 5-8 recipients and they all went through. I never could discern the source of the error message.
