Roger,

What Mac or iDevice are you using and what version of the iOS? Since a carrier means cellular, how does cellular have anything to do with your Mac?

Carrier settings is the software that the phone uses to communicate with your carriers cell system. If you do not do it you phone will eventually quit working.
