The adaptors will add just a half inch? I hear the small connector is solid, so it may work out ok, I hope it does for you.
The adaptor has a built in DAC, I have no idea if that will cause any compatibility issues, hopefully it will do pass-through as well.
Also, the cable has a chip in it. Not sure why though

I agree. These are 1.0 apps right now in a sense but I am expecting
Apple zeal and quality soon and they will eventually blow anything
else away.
All the Google apps will be available soon too for those that want
to use them.
About the connection adapter, I have to admit I knew about the
change before buying but didn't think out the final toll on my
current devices. Pretty much over $500 of my devices are useless,
my HDTV will never work even with a connector as it doesn't
pass video and my radio and couple docks are going to look dumb,
if it will even hold it up, once the adapter is connected and the
iPhone is going to be sitting inches above the docks.
Pretty much I am pushed towards buying an AppleTV, new radio
and docks if I want to get back to where I was a couple days ago.
Of course I can just stop using them or try adapters and work
around the issues I can, so I am deciding now what to do.

You are focusing on the negative which is wrong. All that you mentioned I
see as a positive. YouTube and Maps was removed due to a business decision
not to pay google anymore for them. They created their own maps app which I
think is tons better!! Certainly all maps apps have issues. I know because
I have use them all. None are perfect. YouTube app was released in time for
launch day. The new app is tons better than the previous!
I found many places in my area that sell iPhone 5 cases. I was able to pick
from 4 different ones on launch day!
So in my opinion Apple is doing by far better than before.
