As I mentioned in one of my earlier replies, I usually transfer images taken on an iDevice to my Mac by using AirDrop.
In the Camera Roll on the iPad or iPhone, I tap Select and highlight the images I want to move. Then tap the "square-with-the-arrow-coming-out-of-it", choose AirDrop, and choose my Mac.
This moves the images, WITHOUT DE-SELECTING THEM ON THE DEVICE. So you can immediately delete them on the device without having to re-select them.
