my thanks to pat taylor and jim saklad for their help in solving this problem, which occurred on the XR because i was using the one-touch screenshot method that's available in assistive touch...i've used that method for three years on my 6s because it's so easy...however, i discovered on the XR when doing a screenshot with power button+volume up bottom, there is no home indicator bar tarnishing the image...i prefer the one-touch method but no longer can use it because of the home indicator bar, which just won't go away...that, folks, is a glaring glitch....hard to believe the techs at apple didn't fix it for the X generation of phones.
