I import photos into iPhoto in the MacBook and then manually delete them on the iPhone as the automatic delete option is gone (don't know what wisdom prevailed).
I don't like the ap PHOTOS so I'm still using iPhoto though I received a message that it would no longer work with the new 64 bit upgrade to the Mac OS. So I've barred automatic upgrades on my Mac.
