Who knows where the fault lays without more testing, but instead of testing, take it back to Verizon and tell them. Also tell them you want another iPhone or you are returning it.

You should have 30 days to return it for a full refund. It sounds like you may just have a lemon.

If you want to try the microcell, fine, but exchange the iPhone first, because after 30 days you are out of luck.
