There should be more options. I do not mind if it automatically sends as SMS but not for international texts. Apple did not give us much options.

OK, I found a preference and turned off iMessage because everytime I thought I was texting my son, it was iMessage and it was using data which is same as using my date since he is on my plan. Very confusing if you ask me.
