You are paying $30 every month for unlimited texting.

Formerly, if you wanted to, you could drop down to a lower level, should you choose.

Upon reviewing the AT&T Wireless website, I am reminded that there are now NO lower levels to drop down to on the Family Plan, except pay-as-you-go $0.20/message.

So, yes, you might as well stay where you are, but the costs to you of leaving iMessage ON is immeasurably small, even if non-zero.
