General,  Storage & iCloud

I see

I have used 14.5 GB and have 13.02 GB left

It is already saying  my iCloud storage is almost full.

Total storage available: 5 GB and 3817MB remaining.

(Please don't laugh. I don't have a child around here to teach me how to do this stuff.)

Now some questions.

How do things get put into iCloud?

iMore is my go to website to learn how to do things with my iPhone. Here's a link all about iCloud.

I have never sent anything there. I don't even know what is in the iCloud!

Is there anything on my iPhone that does not take up storage space?

Anything put on your iPhone takes up space.

Do messages & pictures  use up storage space?

Yes. They can take up quite a bit of space depending on how many photos you're storing and at what resolution.

Are there things I can't see or might not be aware of taking up storage space?

Yes. Quoted a number of people don't know about "Other" file.

Here's a link to an explanation of what it is and what to do with it.

What are my options... Is there a quick, easy and painless (no expense) way to take care of this?
I can't say for sure... but I think some updates added some stuff (apps) to my phone. Do they do that?  I see a little TV app I don't recall adding.
I need step-by-step answers, pretty please?

Here's a link to the free imore app that I use all the time. It has lots of articles in it and the imore forum. It's constantly getting new articles.

Thank-you for any help you can provide.

Have you tried the highest rated email app?
With 4.5 stars in iTunes, the Yahoo Mail app is the highest rated email app on the market. What are you waiting for? Now you can access all your inboxes (Gmail, Outlook, AOL and more) in one place. Never delete an email again with 1000GB of free cloud storage.
