Also very mysteriously the rest of the content in my mail has disappeared from the mail and since I deleted the original mail from the inbox the mail from the sent folder should not be appearing in the inbox but it is!
Now the content has magically appeared!
Is there also any way to show the number of mails?
I tried restarting the phone. This is happening on both my phones the iPhone 6 and the 7. It doesn't happen on the iPhone 5 with an ancient iOS. It's definitely something to do with the iOS update. Is anyone else experiencing anything similar? Any solutions? Thanks

I don't think that this is a setting or similar.
This may be a synchronization error with the mail server (apparently Apple) or with the mail client (app) that you're using.
I stopped using Newton as my default mail client for similar behavior (spanning updates), and I briefly experienced it last week using Spark.
If the error should be at your side, restarting your device could help (and not damage): it would likely delete temporary files that might be corrupted.

Have you tried the highest rated email app?
With 4.5 stars in iTunes, the Yahoo Mail app is the highest rated email app on the market. What are you waiting for? Now you can access all your inboxes (Gmail, Outlook, AOL and more) in one place. Never delete an email again with 1000GB of free cloud storage.
