There are a number of tips in this article that might be helpful:

Then, without any new apps, and pretty much the same habits I previously had, the phine started filling up.
I have deleted a large amount of music, and later many apps, but now the phone stays nearly full (6 GB free, often less). On my MacBook Pro, iTunes says that I am 2+ GB over capacity.
Since the Storage & iCloud Usage section of Settings isn't very specific, I can't figure out where the data is piling up. (I'm suspicious of Mail.)
Here are the fattest users:
• Podcasts 8.9
• Music 6.47
• Photos 4.37 (I always delete after importing, but it doesn't seem to matter)
• Mail 2.16 (Even after emptying all mail, it's always above 1.9)
• NYTimes 2.16
• Flickr 1.94
Has anyone else dealt withthis problem? How did you resolve it? (Or improve it?)
