Yeah, that's the answer I found elsewhere that didn't work. I've also read that you can turn the lock on, then go to Assistive Touch and use the Rotate feature. That didn't work either. I'm running 9.3.5 on iPhone 4. I'm really surprised this can't be made into a workable option. I can think of other times when I'd like to lock the screen in landscape besides using a calculator.
I tried Assistive Touch as well and that didn't work either. I agree it seems like there are times when it would be useful.
If you can't find a calculator that already has that feature, maybe find a calculator you otherwise like and suggest the feature to the developer? Wouldn't solve the general case, but might get you a calculator that does what you want.
