I was recently having trouble with both these issues. I found a local guy in my small town that specializes in repairing cell phones. I thought I was going to have to buy a new charging cord and/or a new lightning port - also possibly something to fix the speaker port. Anyway he checked out a few things and found that all I needed was for both items to be cleaned out. He took Q-tips & some other stuff. There was a lot of dirt, lint etc in those places, but after he cleaned them out they worked great. I took several charging cords to have him check them. Some were defective, but others I thought were bad turned out to be OK after he cleaned those places out.
