Re: [apple-iphone] Re: iOS 5.1 and the iPhone 3GS

Paul,

Is that a misspelling? Going to Apple.com and looking for "DFU mode" I got 49 hits, with no mention of DFU.

The genius told me there were lots of problems with this upgrade so he made sure it was backed up and then put it in DFU mode and restored it from scratch to version 5.1. Went smoothly and now all is well. He also showed me how to get it into DFU mode properly (I was doing it wrong). We restored it from my iCloud backup and all is well. When I got home I synched it in iTunes which transferred all my music back. I am a happy camper. He recommended doing this with any software upgrade to prevent any problems. There is no trick to going to the DFU mode… you just have to do it right. Instructions are on Apple's website.

With WiFi I tried through the General Settings>Software Upgrade on both devices (iPhone 4S & iPad (1). The ball kept spinning until the message " Unable to Check for Upgrade ... An error occurred while checking for the software update ... Cancel or Try Again" came up.

The network connection could not be established." I followed the troubleshooting instructions on the Apple website and found I was still unable to download on either my iPad or iPhone 4S.
