They all do. My guess is that it is communicating with your provider and/or updating network settings.
Also, if it is plugged into power to charge, it will stay lit, until you turn it off. I often listen to audiobooks at night to lull me into sleep.

1. Turn the brightness all the way down on the Control Panel.
2. Set up "Do not disturb" for your sleep hours.
3. Turn or cover the iPhone so you can't see the screen.
