I have had charging cables, almost always non-Apple brands, "go bad". They work for months and then suddenly the charge rates slows down or they don't charge at all or I get that error message.

A few days ago, I started getting a strange alert, "This accessory may not be supported," and now, my phone is having trouble charging. When I woke up yesterday I saw that the phone wasn't fully charged, and in the course of the day I noticed that although it's plugged in, the phone stops frequently stops charging.
What could be the reason for the alert message, and does it relate to my charging problem?
