There is no right, or best size. If you mainly use only apps, 16GB is fine, if you store many photos as I do, or have podcasts, or much music, you need bigger.
Its an individual thing. However, for any new to a smartphone, they do need to think carefully and seek advice. As they may grow into more things once they get up to speed.

I did have the 16gb for many years. it held everything, but I don't watch movies usually but I kept accruing a lot of apps. Before I handed it in I decided though to upgrade to 32gb. Almost wanted the 64gb just to be sure, burt the radio shack guy said he rarely sells that size phone. So since I didn't have to wait for my phone, I kept the 32gb. I'm sure it will be just fine. I need to get rid of a few apps I don't use anyway.
