That's correct. It's a random thing that happens. It has happened with iOS 11 PB 4 when I run the Color Therapy app  on my iPad mini. It doesn't always happen. Just once in awhile.

A respring only restarts the SpringBoard without turning the device off. A reboot turns the Device off completly. Think of it being similar to the Log Off and Restart functions on your computer. One keeps the OS core running while one completely shuts it down before coming back.  And yes, Roger, I think you're right about the term coming from jailbreaking days. Don't know for sure though.
