My apologies to everyone.  

Yes, I did confuse them. 
I was seeing the messages from Facebook on my iPhone 7 and my mini iPad just fine but then  somehow I must have accidently allowed the messenger app. 

I haven't completed it yet.   But right now it will not allow me to access the messages unless I complete the install of the app.

I don't want to use that. I prefer  to go back to the way it was.
What should I do?
