I wouldn't use them as a marketing tool because it totally annoys people who have to think what the _____ letters translate to as numbers in the phone number. I have actually done business elsewhere because the phone I was using didn't have the letters and thought to myself - screw the ____ letters I don't have time to figure it out.

To key in the acronym requires inspecting 26 symbols.
To key in the number requires inspecting 10 symbols.

That's why it's easier and faster to key in the number, rather than the acronym.
Of course, the acronym may be easier to remember than the number; but most people have too much to remember as it is. They will NOT remember either the number or the acronym, but they may key the number into their phone's directory; and as someone pointed out, the phone dials numbers only not letters.
