They changed iTunes a while back to eliminate the nice folder display on the left side of the window. Now it is "SYNC" and the stuff I used all the time like copying one song or one movie seems to be impossible.
I had to buy a program called "iMazing" to be able to transfer one song at a time or a small group of songs at a time. I know what you mean with a large music library. You really don't want to be at the mercy of "sync" which may have unintended consequences. Most of my music is digital files created off albums and tapes - my ripping program creates a very nice directory structure on my hard drive, which nicely organizes every artist, album, and song. I like this organization much more than the one in iTunes, and will probably migrate all my music out of there so I don't get unexpected and unwanted results from "sync".
