Thought I would update on this. It is back to working but not without issues. I finally had time to contact Apple Support on Friday afternoon. They ran diagnostic test and hardware was fine. Software seemed to be fine but he wanted me to restore the OS. I tried twice. First time wouldn't take, second time it bricked my phone. So I took a trip to the apple store to try to get it back. I got there about 4:45 and was told my wait would be about 90 minutes. That should put it about 6:15 or a little later. Then about 5:20 guy came by and said it would be about 8 p.m. Well I couldn't leave because I had no phone and because of other commitments I couldn't go back Saturday or Sunday. So I waited. They did get me in about 6:45. They were able to get the software restored and Face ID appeared to be working without problem. I restored from backup after I got home, about 2 hours to do so, and it all seems to be working fine now.
