In that you provided little information on your previous phone and your method for backing up your contacts, a generic search is what is possible presently. A quick search suggests there are several methods that may work for you.

I *may* be wrong about the GPS radio receiver, but Bluetooth is DEFINITELY tuned off by Airplane Mode (try going to Control Center and tapping on the Airplane icon, and watch the Cellular, Wifi, and Bluetooth icons ALL turn off).

Like Wifi, Bluetooth can then be turned on separately.
