> What is confusing is that the iPad is still connected to vpn after 5-6 days of off and on. The iPhone however drops unexpectedly frequently. Same version of the iOS. I have even tried the same location server and various other servers to see if it were just a weak connection but it still drops.

Everyone's usage pattern is different.
For example, the great majority of my own connectivity for my iOS devices is either a secure Wifi (at home), or cellular, and I therefore rarely use VPN with those connections.
If I want to use, say, McDonalds' Wifi (insecure), the first thing I do when I sit down is turn on Wifi, then turn on VPN, and wait for it to "latch on" before doing anything else.
Do you regularly use no-password public Wifi? Is your home Wifi secure (WPA2 encryption)? Or do you need other aspects of what VPN is?
