THINK ABOUT IT... if you drop your phone, 99.8%(?) of the time it is going to land on a corner. It is extremely unlikely to land absolutely flat on any surface.
Sooo... the place where you most need protection is the place where glass meets a three dimensional edge. That happens on the four corners of the glass screen and if the back is glass, on the four corners of the glass back.
Beware of cases that leave a couple corners open to the elements. I once had a "feather" (by ________) that left 2 corners bare and when it dropped, that is where it landed...
