Before going through the request for unlock procedure, it says to ensure the device is not already unlocked. How does one determine if the phone is already unlocked? I purchased my iPhone 5 outright when I upgraded from my iPhone 3, so it was never subsidized.
Just came across an article about the new Activation Lock.
Activation lock (which is not new), and the (new) website for checking it, is NOT "carrier lock".
A device bought used *could* already be unlocked from any carrier, but have been activation-locked by its former owner when it was stolen from them.
