The sidebar hasn't gone, it's become context-sensitive. At the top left of the main window you have icons for
Music Movies TV Shows Others (Podcasts, iTunes U, Books, Apps, Tones, Internet Radio) Devices.
For instance, where applicable, Playlists is an option in the centre part of the top bar. Click that and the sidebar opens to show them as before.
