[apple-iphone] Japan

I am going to Japan for 5 weeks in a few months. There will be two of us.

I have the iPhone 5.

But I also kept my iPhone 3 and 4.

Just looking for ideas. Should I rent a phone there? Can the sims be replaced in my old phones for Japan use.

I know I can 'up my plan' with att. But I would like to avoid that if possible.
