sorry for your loss but something else to keep in mind. unless I am sadly
and badly mistaken as I understand it when one enables the iCloud sync you
still have the option to backup yor phone on your PC via iTunes. we have
two iPhones and share an identical contact list via iCloud which, by
default, means that that list is synced with and via iCloud. however, I
periodically backup, not sync, our iPhones via iTunes and doing that also
preserves the contact list. if I'm wrong about that then someone on the
list can set me straight but otherwise I encourage everyone to take all
available steps to protect their data...apps, music, podcasts, contacts,
notes, etc.

I have been an iPhone user since the 3G days so my phone contains a lot of
data that I have entered into Notes. When iCloud came along I enabled it
and configured it to back up my Notes and Calendar. Things seemed to work
just fine and my iCloud page showed that it was being updated every evening
when it was connected to my charger. Last week I accidentally deleted a
line from one of my Notes files. It was a Shopping list and was probably
one of the first notes I had created. Before iCloud, I was using a PC for
backup so I checked there first. When you enable iCloud, the PC backup is
shut off.
