Jim,
I miss Firesign Theater, and it is amazing how much were disagree, while you and I agree.
I may be foggy on the details of the new AppleCare, because I have the old on my 4S. I'd have to look up the details, but I thought the price went up, and it is more expensive if you need a replacement.
I still think it is a better deal than going with out, and will buy it with my next iPhone purchase, in about another 2 years.

Do you remember the Firesign Theater?
Their 8th album was entitled Everything You Know Is Wrong. <grin>
I think Applecare for my iPhone 3G was $99 and did NOT cover breakage or water damage (or loss, or theft).
Applecare+ today for an iPhone 5 costs $99, and covers everything the older version covered, PLUS up to 2 incidents of breakage or water damage (with a $99/incident "co-pay").
This is BETTER coverage for NO MORE money.
