Re: [apple-iphone] MIght switch to a Mac from PC.

1) I found "switching" not too difficult. A Mac keyboard has other modifier keys than a PC one. That may be the biggest hurdle.
The second-biggest may prove to be a boon: finding that Apple is more about "getting things done" than about tweaking devices. That puts macOS and iOS opposite Windows, Linux and Android. (I use all of these, plus webOS on an LG smart television.)

2) There are ways of having Windows on a Mac, or emulations to have Windows programs run on a Mac. However, don't expect to migrate all your Windows programs.
I use CrossOver, <https://www.codeweavers.com/products/>, with Linux and macOS, without upgrading.

3) Me, I "switched" some four years ago. However, I'm using a 10.5" iPad Pro as my default device at all. I haven't used a Mac for half a year now. I must use an older Windows device with a few obsolete programs that I can't yet replace. That device is dual-boot with Linux, and the difference in "snappiness" between these operating systems is amazing. macOS would be in between, I guess, to the snappier side.

4) As you talk about an external hard drive, mind the file system. I think that I'm up to date with the Paragon file system drivers for several operating systems. <https://www.paragon-software.com>

I just switched from Android to an the X and have a good deal on a small 2017 21" i5 8gb 1tb  iMac that a

friend needs to sell. I could pretty much swap it out with the 23" HP all in one and put it in the same spot. The iMac has better screen and faster too as my HP is some years old.

I have never used a Mac since the little b&w box way back :> and not sure how the transferring stuff will go.

I did Google it, but wanted "real life experiences" if anyone here did that before.

I am backing up all my important stuff to an external HD as I heard that is faster than the transfer utility,

but will my Windows Quicken data, Outlook email save file and things like that work with the Mac versions?

I do not have Outlook IMAP, its POP so a lot of important stuff saved there.

If this goes smooth, down the road I will swap out my Surface Pro for a Macbook Pro or Air.

Thanks,

Rich
