Tape is a good idea. On white devices one can use white electrical tape (available at Amazon). It is thin so it can be layered to subdue the light rather than completely block it. Good if the light is important to indicate proper functioning. 

There are probably cheap thin black tapes that can do the same thing for black devices..

I have the same with the mophie chargers and love them. They charge with a case on.
