Battery life (how long a charge lasts) has been steadily deteriorating on my phone and that of my wife for some months. That the battery is beyond the service life seemed a reasonable presumption. I called Apple who ran me through a bunch of settings to make sure it wasn't some simple configuration item and then the support person logged into my phone remotely. That was at once quite interesting and a little creepy. He confirmed that both batteries (two phones remember) were bad. We have a Genius Bar reservation for Saturday afternoon to replace the batteries at the $29 promised rate.
For $79 I would have done it myself. I already have a pentalobe screwdriver and the batteries cost only $15-20. For $29 each I'm just as happy to have Apple do it. I'm looking forward to getting back to reasonable battery charge life.
