I am using iTunes on my Mac.
In iTunes Preferences, under Store, I have "Always check for available downloads" checked.
I also have "Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases" UNchecked.
With these settings, if I click on iTunes Store in the left pane (or click on Home in the Store menu), and then click on Purchased on the right of the main window, I see a page with headings of Music, Movies, TV Shows, Apps, Books. I click on Music, and it shows any un-hidden music purchases that I have available. One is U2, "Songs of Innocence".
If this does not happen with you, tell us how far through this chain you can go.
