Re: [apple-iphone] iPhone Prices

Neither can I. The price is $50, cool, I'll take a thousand...

Here in NZ, we still have contracts, but more and more buy outright, and the Telco I am with, and work with, has 12 or 24 months interest free. Do the math as below and choose the best deal. But yes I also hate the I am buying for $50 comments.

The customer needs to do the math

Price up front + the monthly plan costs for the duration of the contract  = what it will cost on contract

Outright price + the monthly plan that suits YOU for the duration of the above contract

If the plan the contract is on, IS the one you would take anyway, you will get a saving. But typically, to get a super low upfront, you will be on a high plan and that may be way more than what you need

Subject: [apple-iphone] iPhone Prices

Maybe I am crazy but I have a problem with the way that cell phone prices are stated...

$199, $99, FREE...

Even on the Apple web site they show the lower prices...

but if you try to actually get one for the stated "price", you cannot have it.

The REAL prices are $649, $699, $799 or numbers in that range...

If you actually get out of the door with one of the "lower prices", you have paid a small part of the price, but the carrier has paid the rest of it, and they are going to take it back from you month by month...

But buyers keep saying that they bought for the lower subsidized prices... kind of like saying "I bought a new Chevrolet for five hundred dollars", but not mentioning the five year installment payment contract...

who cannot understand why...
