I decided to go with a 5s. Got it at Best Buy for $49 ($99 with a $50 gift card which they applied at purchase).
If I want a larger iphone later, I may consider the iPhone 6.
I sold my Samsung Galaxy S3 to Gazelle and got a $63 Amazon gift card. I used it for a 32G Sandisk Connect wireless flash drive. It works great and takes care of my storage needs while out and about.
